Pair of Protective Feng Shui Fu Dogs
Fu dogs are loyal protectors with the ferocity of the lion. Tradition depicts them as the guardians of the gates of heaven, able to perceive those with good or bad intentions. In ancient times, all important buildings were guarded by statues of Fu Dogs. And Fu Dogs are still used to today to flank and watch over many auspicious entrances to businesses, banks, hotels and the like. You can even find them on door knockers and pottery.
They are known to have the power to eliminate negative chi. Their power is strong in neutralizing or deflecting the dreaded shar chi or poison arrows that come off of sharp corners, busy traffic routes pointed toward you, hospitals, police stations, schools and any imposing structure like a lamp post or telephone booth.
Because fu dogs were traditionally made out of bronze in very large castings - bronze being a very expensive material - they are known as symbols of wealth and majesty. In Buddhism lions are known for being the guardians of dharma.

Fu dogs are always depicted in pairs to represent harmonious energy, like that of the yin and yang. The male fu dog or guardian lion rests his paw on an embroidered ball, sometimes engraved with the flower of life, while the female fu dog carries a playful cub on her back or under her paw. The ball the male rests his paw upon is a symbol of the earth or globe, so that the male fu dog represents dominion or guardianship over the planet. While the female fu dog with the cub on her back is symbolic of nurturing and strong descendant luck.
Sometimes the male fu dog’s mouth is open while the female’s is closed. This represents the utterance of the sacred syllable “om.” The males open mouth orating the “o” sound and the females closed orating the “m” sound. This sacred syllable has many auspicious meanings across much of Asia. The open and closed mouths of the fu dogs are also said to represent inhaling and exhaling to signify the preciousness of breath. Sometimes the fu dogs also each have a large, movable pearl in their mouths, again demonstrating their dominion or guardianship over the earth.
When placing your foo dogs, display them looking in the same direction as you look out of your entranceway with the male at the left and the female at the right. Fu dogs should be placed on either side of your front entrance, front porch or front gate. It is best to display the fu dogs at a height, ideally a couple of feet off the ground, in this positions Feng Shui fu dogs will be able to look out far and wide to guard against and block any negative energy from entering your living spaces.
