Kuan Yin or Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is a very prominent and admired Goddess, widely pursued by the Chinese and followers of Mahayana Buddhism. Being the definitive icon of mercy and passion, Kuan Yin is a respectable maiden, as her tale tells. She actually reached the point where she could become a Buddha (enlightenment) and yet she decided to stay on Earth, remaining a “Pu Sa”. She wanted to help humankind achieve better karma, leading them to the Western Heavens, where they can find serenity and joy. Because she had the ability to comfort the sick and senile, Kuan Yin was widely admired and adored by the people on Earth. She touched their hearts and souls, creating a sense of peace and relief amongst those who were less fortunate.
Those who are in need of this Goddess’ aid need simply to cry out her name; she will assist those trying to overcome depression, grief, relationship issues, family drama, illness, death of loved ones and other major obstacles in life. She is known as the “One Who Hears the Cries of the World” – when in distress, one must chant “Om Mani Padme Hum” (the potent Buddhist mantra) in front of her image. Kwan Yin will then protect you, your family and your business from evil. Like a child calling its mother, people depend on the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion, grateful for her promptness and immediacy. Once this bodhisattva is called upon, she will serve to rid the caller’s life of suffering, transforming it into joy and harmony.
Guan Yin is used in many ways to summon good luck and fortune, as well as bring a sense of protection to the beholder’s home. However, always place her on an elevated plane because she is a most sacred figure.
1. Place the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion at your praying altar, as she is a deity who can be prayed to. To overcome any obstacles you are facing, chant mantras at her figure at least once a day.
2. Exhibit the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion facing the main entrance – doing so will counteract any negative chi entering the home. In addition to this, Kwan Yin’s facade will serve to eliminate evil by repressing evil forces, giving your home the benefit of safe blessings.
3. To create luck with health and relationships for your household, place Guan Yin in prominent locales in your living room or main family room. She will calm family members, preventing arguments and tensions. However, refrain from cursing and crudeness around her presence; it is important to treat her with respect.
*Note* The Goddess of Mercy and Compassion is greatly revered; do not place her in the toilet, the kitchen, or at an elevation of less than 3 feet.
