Kuan Yin or Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is a very prominent and admired Goddess, widely pursued by the Chinese and followers of Mahayana Buddhism. Being the definitive icon of mercy and passion, Kuan Yin is a respectable maiden, as her tale tells. She actually reached the point where she could become a Buddha (enlightenment) and yet she decided to stay on Earth, remaining a “Pu Sa”. She wanted to help humankind achieve better karma, leading them to the Western Heavens, where they can find serenity and joy.

Those who are in need of this Goddess’ aid need simply to cry out her name; she will assist those trying to overcome depression, grief, relationship issues, family drama, illness, death of loved ones and other major obstacles in life. She is known as the “One Who Hears the Cries of the World” – when in distress, one must chant “Om Mani Padme Hum” (the potent Buddhist mantra) in front of her image. Kuan Yin will then protect you, your family and your business from evil, in addition to energize the Feng Shui symbols around her. Like a child calling its mother, people depend on the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion, grateful for her promptness and immediacy. Once this bodhisattva is called upon, she will serve to rid the caller’s life of suffering, transforming it into joy and harmony.

“Om Mani PadMe Hum” (derived from Sanskrit) is the most widely-known and popular mantra used in Buddhism. This six syllable phrase which can be transliterated to "Hail the Jewel in the Lotus" is an invocation mantra of the Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Infinite Compassion who protects one from harm. The Bodhisattva vowed to free all sentient beings from suffering and is said to appear anywhere to help all beings in danger and distress. Om Mani PadMe Hum is also referred to as "The Mantra of Universal Protection".

Dzi beads (pronounced “ji”, meaning “brightness”) are gemstone charms that are highly worshipped in Tibet and the Himalaya mountain range. Tibetan culture highly reveres the Dzi beads and treats them as mystical charms. It is known as the “Heavenly Stone” by Tibetans, because of the legendary story of how the demi-gods discarded the Dzi Beads once they were scratched in the slightest way. There are many other legends and tales surrounding the powers of the Dzi beads lucky charms, which originate from Tibetan folklore.

These supernatural Tibetan charms boast beautifully engraved patterns and colors. The stones are of a dark hue, and are often “agate” beads, stones which are found deep in the Himalayas. There are many different patterns which can be found on various Dzi beads; circles, squares and waves are quite common. Those that possess rarer patterns are further steeped in mythical belief, such as the Dzi bead which depicts an outline of the five bats or tortoise shell. Dzi beads are also imprinted with many “eyes”, to detect malicious intentions and repress them – there are many different numbers of eyes which can be seen on a Dzi bead, and each represent different meanings.

There are many mythical beliefs behind the powers of the these good luck beads; these come from Tibet itself, which has always been a land of mystics and holy powers. The lucky charm beads can create an abundance of benefits, among which are prosperity, good fortune, health and longevity. When the beholder wears the Dzi beads, they will adorn an “invisible cloak”, protecting them against evil forces, negative energy and supernatural spirits. Sickness and untimely deaths are also avoided by the presence of this Tibetan charm – this is because they improve the immunity of the beholder by balancing out the body’s yin, yang and five elements. In addition to this, the beholder will feel a greater sense of mind control, replacing the anger in their lives with a sense of calm and serenity.

Despite the fact that the Dzi beads belong to Tibetan origins, they can be worn by anyone to encourage a good aura and better karma. Because the beads represent a mythical meaning as opposed to a religious one, race or religion of the wearer is of no concern.
