A beautiful handmade brass with silver plating statue of the Vajrasattva (Sanskrit) or the Tibetan Tantric Buddha Dorje Sempa or Dorje Sambha.

Vajrasattva is one of the founders of Tibetan medicine. He is bedecked with elaborate ornaments and seated on a lotus pedestal. In his right hand he delicately holds the dorje at his heart and in his left, a bell. These two items are inseparable ritual objects in Tibetan Buddhism and they represent the male and female energy respectively.

The dorje is a Tibetan word and also called Vajra in sanskrit. It represents the male principle of action (upaya) and means diamond or thunderbolt. This is because it symbolizes a tool, as hard as the diamond or as powerful as the thunderbolt, that can cut through ignorance, delusion, greed, anger and impurities of the mind. It is also believed to represent firmness of spirit and spiritual power. The bell represents the principle of wisdom. When these two principles work in harmony, enlightenment can be achieved.

Vajrasattva is a very important deity who is considered both a Buddha and a bodhisattva. He is also regarded as the primordial Buddha - the Buddha from whom all other Buddhas emanate.
